  • ABRSM Exam Timeline

My general ABRSM exam timeline for most students is as follows:

    Novice learner

    Beginner to Grade 5: 18 - 24 months

    Grade 5 to Grade 8: 22 – 28 months

There will be exceptions as some will take less time. I like to skip all the grades in between so grades 5 and 8 are my main focus. It is the diploma portion that I am most drawn to because here the student’s artistry is fully summoned.

    Mature learner

For most students, the time taken from grade 8 to first diploma (DipABRSM or ATCL) is 18 months. I have had young students complete it in less than a year. For the second diploma (LRSM, LTCL), the average time taken to accomplish it after completing the first diploma is 18 months. However, I had one young student complete the LTCL exam in one year with distinction after attaining grade 8. This student skipped the first diploma.
